Q: “I spoke one time with Gary Burton about that and he approaches it the same way as you that the studio is a tool and that all of the available technology is another way of adding colour and getting an effect on a record because a record is one thing and a performance is another.”

A: Gap Mangione: “That's true, but in essence, that's one of the few places where I've done and it's true that I, on occasion, will use an overdub of the keyboard onto another keyboard thing, so that I'll be playing background on electric piano, while I play a solo and on an acoustic piano.”

Interviewer: “Well, how?”

Gap Mangione: “Okay, on a synthesizer. But there is very little that we have on record that I can't, that I don't play in the club and very little that I have to reduce to be able to play in the club.”
