Q: “You’re getting around the world, you’ve toured the Soviet Union with the trio, right?”

A: “Yeah, we did play thirteen concerts in nine days over there in three cities. It was arranged by a man over two concerts in Vancouver, a guy named George Zuckermann, who in addition to being, I guess, you could call him a hotshot impresario, was a world-class bassoonist. And he has performed all over the world and … It's an interesting thing, we've done two tours across Canada and he has built this thing up over 25 or 30 years of sending mostly legit groups, string quartets or symphonies or ballet or whatever to small towns. On our way to Russia, we did … played 25 concerts across Canada. A lot of the centers of jazz activity like Bella Coola and Dawson Creek and British Columbia and, oh Lord … Renfrew, Ontario, that's the last one we played. It's just outside of Ottawa about sixty miles where we played community halls, if they had them. And it’s a subscription series. It's pretty sold and the people will, depending how much money they’ve got, he will offer them a “season” (in quotes) say, "Well, you can have a pick.” so they'll have, say, four groups over a three or four-month period. Say “Well, we'll have a jazz group. We’ll try that Martha, it may not be too bad, you know, because we've got the ballet coming the next month.” That sort of thing.”
