Q: “Are you never satisfied with your music?”
A: Dick Wellstood: “No, but I mean, you know, any musician, I don't know many musicians with the possible exception of Louis Armstrong who liked to listen to his own stuff all the time because you hear all the mistakes. You hear ... you know what you wished you had done and what you did do is not always what you wished you had done because it's an imperfect world, you know. And so it's kind of a torture to sit there and listen to yourself miss notes or rush or something, even though it might not be apparent to people that you're doing that because they don't know what you should have done.”
Interviewer: “Yes.”
Dick Wellstood: “But I know, so that's why I don't always like to listen to them.”
