Q; “You’ve had some good people do your songs. We mentioned Irene Krall – great singer, Blosom Dearie, Jackie and Roy, and quite recently now Rosemary Clooney! How would this have gotten to her? Do you know? Did you give it to her?”

A: “Exactly, yeah. She's from Kentucky and somebody told her that they'd heard my song, 'Sweet Kentucky Ham', and she might be interested. And John Otto, her pianist and conductor called me in Portland and said, "Rosemary is interested in 'Sweet Kentucky Ham', can you send a lead sheet?" And I did. The next time I heard from him, it was to tell me that they had recorded it that day and it came out great.”
