Transcription

 Q: “You went out to California at a time a whole bunch of guys seemed to. Was New York getting to you as eventually Los Angeles did?”

 

A: Dave Frishberg: “I suppose, I was being divorced - divorcing at that time and that had a lot to do with it and also I was offered a great job in Los Angeles writing for television. That had a lot to do with it. Otherwise, I couldn't afford to make the move. And you're right, I remember that my move coincided with that of the Merv Griffin Show and a lot of my friends were on that band, Bill Berry, Richard Kamuka (sp), Jake Hanna, they were all in that band and they all moved out to California about a month before I did. And when I got to LA, I walked into Dantes, which was the big jazz club out there and ...”

 

Interviewer:  “Which was a little, big jazz club out there.”

 

Dave Frishberg:  “Yeah, and ...”

 

Interviewer:  “Quite a small room.”

 

Dave Frishberg:  “There at the bar, all the guys that I just left in New York, you know.”
