Q: “One doesn’t think of the Texas area for piano players. I don’t know why but I always think that saxophone players come out of Texas…”

A: Cedar Walton: “Right, it's sax country, that's for sure.”

Interviewer: “As a matter of fact.”

Cedar Walton: “Yeah, that's sax country out there.”

Interviewer: “Yeah, yeah.”

Cedar Walton: “Texas tenor and I heard a lot of them, too. For every fat head, they have ten other guys, you know, who really played well. We used to gather in the elementary school park. I remember just going down there and listening to them. I couldn't leave, I mean.”
