Q: “You’ve added another laurel recently, but one that you hate – acting…”

A: Carmen McRae: “Oh, God. Do I hate it! I thought I was going to love it and I just don't like … I don’t mind the acting, the actual, but the ...”

Interviewer: “The drudgery of the doing it?”

Carmen McRae: “The drudgery of sitting around and waiting three, four or five hours before they call you, and then you're sitting in this dumb RV, which is uncomfortable and there is nothing in it and you're just sitting there and you know, you're reading a book or you're looking at your soaps and then you don't want to do that anymore, you know. You're just sitting, you know, it's a pain”.
