Q: “Was the music called jazz when you were listening to it, or was it just the music you heard at that time and later they put a label on it?”

A: “Well, originally, I mean, if I look at the original Dixieland Jazz Band. They spelled it J-A-S-S, but they were using the term then. Now, we didn't use it much, admittedly.”
