Q: “Do you sit down and write a lot?”

 

A: “Well, yeah. Recently, I wrote a lot of compositions, but people … American audiences discouraged me a little, I guess, (from) playing my own compositions because most people want to hear some familiar things, familiar songs and, you know, it's not so easy to play original stuff in an environment - concerts, yes, maybe. But still people coming to me when I play, for instance, half and half. Half my own compositions and half of standards. Some people still complain a little bit. They want more, to hear more standards, more familiar songs they can follow me. “
