Q: “Is it hard to make a living as a pianist?”

A: Adam Makowics: “For me, yes, it's harder than any other. I mean, I'm not American, so people are prejudiced. We are all prejudiced as a matter of fact. So, when I came to the United States, people didn't believe me. How a jazz pianist like he called himself a jazz pianist ...”

Interviewer: “How can he be if he's from Poland?”

Adam Makowics: “How can it be, you know, he's from Poland.”

Interviewer: “Yeah.”

Adam Makowics: “He's from East Europe. That is just not right, you know. But classical music came from Europe, that's fine, but jazz is American music.”
