Biography
URBIE GREEN (trombonist, bandleader) was born August 8, 1926 in Mobile Alabama. Green is considered one of the jazz world’s master trombonists. Following in his brothers footsteps Green took up trombone in high school going on to perform with many of the jazz stars of the 1950s and 1960s, including Benny Gooodman, conducting the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and most notably as part of Woody Herman’s Thundering Herd. Aside from his numerous recording credits – as sideman,some 30 albums as leader and critical honours including Most Valuable Player from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences multiple times, he has contributed to improvements on trombone design.
