Biography

SAMMY PRICE (pianist, bandleader) was born October 6, 1908 in Honey Grove, Texas and passed away April 14, 1992 in New York, NY. Price, a versatile blues and boogie woogie style pianist spent time in Kansas City, Chicago and Detroit before becoming in-house pianist at Decca Records in New York recording with singers such as Sister Rosetta Tharpe. In later years he recorded with Doc Cheatham and led his own groups the Texas Blusicians as well as Two Tenor Boogie producing several recordings from 1969 – 1983.
