Mike Mantler

Biography

MIKE MANTLER (trumpeter, composer) Austrian born Mantler studied music in Vienna at the Academy of Music and Vienna University before attending the Berklee School of Music in Boston in 1962. His projects in the free jazz realm included the formation of the Jazz Composer’s Orchestra with Carla Bley, his onetime partner and frequent collaborator and the record label JCOA.
Mantler has recorded many solo albums, working with artists such as Mike Stern and Charlie Haden’s Liberation Music Orchestra, with a focus on composing. His musical explorations have included not only jazz but orchestral, rock and progressive chamber music works.
