Marcus Belgrave

Biography

MARCUS BELGRAVE (trumpeter, composer, arranger, producer, educator) was born June 12, 1936 in Chester, PA. The Detroit raised master trumpeter is best known for his long association with Ray Charles. Belgrave has also performed with Max Roach, Ella Fitgerald and Charles Mingus among others. A respected educator, Belgrave has earned a reputation for fostering up and coming talent including Kenny Garrett, Regina Carter and Geri Allen. Belgrave is currently with the Lincoln Centre Jazz Orchestra at the invitation of Wynton Marsalis and is a professor at Oberlin University and a busy clinician.
