Biography

JOE NEWMAN (trumpeter, composer, educator) was born on September 7, 1922 in New Orleans, La. and passed away July 4, 1992. Bridging the eras of swing and bebop Newman played with Lionel Hampton, Ilinois Jacquet, J.C. Heard and had a long association with Count Basie’ s big band. An advocate for education he co- founded Jazz Interactions Inc., a nonprofit organization for promoting the jazz tradition while recording and performing as a leader and sideman.
