Jim Vivian

Biography

JIM VIVIAN (bassist) was born on January 21, 1961. As one of the most in demand bassists in the country, Vivian has performed and recorded with numerous great Canadian artists including Don Thompson, Jeff Johnston, and Sonny Greenwich. He has also worked with international artists such as Dave Liebman, Kenny Wheeler, Tim Hagans, and John Abercrombie. He was a member of The Shuffle Demons from 1984 to 1989, and also played for a period with Rob McConnell and The Boss Brass.

He joined the Jazz Studies faculty at the University of Toronto in 2002.

Jim Vivian was the bassist for a total of 11 different jazz ensembles in the “Sound of Toronto Jazz” Concert Series at the Ontario Science Centre between 1989 and 2002.
