Biography
COLIN BRAY (bassist) is a well-known and highly-regarded musician and “voice” for the preservation and promotion of Classic Jazz. With others, Colin Bray was instrumental in the establishment of The Classic Jazz Society of Toronto in 1993, with the aim of “bringing back the original form of jazz to Toronto”. The Society’s definition of “Classic Jazz” embraces ‘20s and ‘30s style, Traditional, Dixieland, and any other form of jazz up to the swing era citing as examples the music made famous by artists such as Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver, and Bix Beiderbecke.
Colin Bray plays bass with the famous Hot Five Jazzmakers, and performed concert with that band during the “Sound of Toronto Jazz” Series on January 23, 1995.
