Q: “There was a long period when you just made your living playing trumpet…”

A: “I never left New York and that's all I did, with shows and then television came in. I did a lot of recording and I worked at Condon’s and you know, I mixed down with Billie at places like that and just, you know, keep my hand into the jam and the jazz scene and all that. But mainly, I just worked to support my family, that's what I did.”
