Q: “Is it a little bit of a problem for you in a way to be so well established that you are a solo artist and you travel the world solo but in many cases you don’t get a chance to play with the people you’d really like to; because you can’t be a sideman anymore, can you?”

A: “Well, I think of myself as a sideman's strangely enough. I hate the concept of the prima donna concept of being a soloist and you know, if I had it to do again I would never choose a solo instrument per se. Oh, I would be much more interested in playing in a rhythm section.”
