Q: “Did you ever think you would achieve the heights that you have?”

A: “No, because I'm the youngest of a family of nine and from the time that I wrote the first letter to the BBC, when I was about, oh, gosh, seventeen, eighteen years of age. I had acquired a typewriter and I was just starting to write a letter and dad came over and he said, "What are you doing, son?" In this real cockney accent, you know, I said, "I'm writing to the BBC, dad, to see if I can get a job." "Oh," he said, you know. He said, "Those kind of jobs are not for the working class, son." He said, "There, only the nobs get those, you know."
