Biography
JIMMY HEATH (saxophonist, composer, arranger, bandleader, educator) was born James Edward Heath on October 25, 1926 and is the middle brother of the famous Heath brothers. A talented bop multi-instrumentalist, Heath switched from alto to tenor in the 1950s. Heath has been a sideman with some of the greatest names in jazz in the past 50 years from Miles Davis to Wynton Marsalis. In the 1960s he frequently paired with Art Farmer and Milt Jackson and in 1975 formed The Heath Brothers. Many of Heath’s over 125 compositions have become jazz standards. Heath has appeared on more than 100 albums – seven with The Heath Brothers, 12 as leader. He is a respected educator and clinician and continues to teach and perform extensively.
