Biography

HELEN HUMES (vocalist) was born June 23, 1913 in Louisville, Kentucky and passed away September 9, 1981. Humes, sometimes compared to Dinah Washington, had her own distinctively joyful singing style - whether it was blues, standards or ballads. Best known for her work with Count Basie, Humes also appeared with Dizzy Gillespie, Red Norvo and Harry James. She had hits with “Million Dollar Secret” and “Be-Baba-Leba”.
