Q: “I hear a lot of Jimmy Raney in you and a lesser amount of Tal Farlow in a way – some of the approaches and the harmonies and that – and Raney’s a very quiet player, as you are and not a loud, shout ‘em out turn up the amplifier sort of thing…”
A: Ed Bickert: “Yeah, well, I certainly listened to both those guys and a lot of others, too, Jimmy Raney and Teller are certainly people I enjoyed a lot and … Oh, there are so many others, too. I used to listen to Johnny Smith quite a lot and Kenny Burrell. Later on, with Jim Hall and well, a lot of others, too, that I can't remember them all at this time.”
